UCT developed the terms of reference and fund framework for the new Community Benefit Fund in late 2018 and early 2019. This relied heavily on volunteer input and UCT would like to thank the volunteer panel for their support in development of the fund. Lochbroom Community Renewables gifted the first round of surplus funds from Broompower in 2018 and early 2019, ready for distribution to community projects in the summer of 2019.
The Community Benefit Fund totalled ?9050. ?5000 was direct surplus generated by the BroomPower hydro scheme, plus a massive contribution of ?3590 donated to the fund from the interest of community shareholders (which is a fantastic gesture). A further ?460 was donated bringing the grand total to ?9050. The fund is designed around the Community Growth Plan fund criteria and looks to build a lasting legacy within the community by supporting local projects and initiatives. It is planned that future income generating projects will also pay into the Benefit Fund.
